The SLC Fire Department considers pets to be part of the family, and routinely rescues pets during residential fires.

If your house catches fire, and you haven’t seen your pet after evacuating, communicate with firefighters on scene to let them know your pet may still be inside

If you’re not at home, you can help protect your pet by placing pet awareness stickers in conspicuous locations on the windows of the residence.  These are available from local pet stores or via the Internet. 

Dog & Cat Resuscitation Kits

Over a year ago, a local citizen kindly donated several oxygen masks  for the resuscitation of pets.  These were deployed throughout the department, and resulted in the lifesaving of a dog trapped inside a burning house while the owner was away.  Although the masks are reusable, the department has an extremely tight budget, and cannot replace them once they’ve been worn out.  We are able to accept donations of masks for those interested in purchasing them.  The last sets obtained came from Help Animals Inc.  If you’re interested in donating, please contact Dave Herrmann at 801-799-3540.
