At 8:55 a.m. on Wednesday, May 8, 2013, the Salt Lake City Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 377 North 800 West in Salt Lake City.

When firefighters arrived, they saw smoke and flames coming from the ground level apartment of the structure. The structure has two apartments, one on the ground level and one on the second floor. The two occupants from the ground-level apartment and the two occupants from the second-floor apartment had all evacuated the building by the time firefighters arrived.

As crews arrived at the scene, there were people on the front porch working to extinguish the fire with a garden hose. Firefighters entered the structure and quickly had the fire under control and then extinguished.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Salt Lake City Fire Department investigators believe the fire originated in the front room of the ground-level apartment.

There were no injuries reported due to the fire. The woman who lives in the ground-level apartment with her husband told firefighters that her husband had assaulted her. Firefighters notified the Salt Lake City Police Department. Salt Lake City Fire Department investigators and Salt Lake City Police Department officers detained the man at the scene. Salt Lake City Fire Department investigators will interview the suspect in an effort to determine if he had any involvement in the fire.

There is severe fire, smoke and water damage to the ground-level apartment, and the occupants of that apartment have been displaced due to the fire. Firefighters kept the fire from reaching the second-level apartment, however the power to the entire building was shut off because of the fire. The Red Cross is working with the occupants of the second-level apartment in case they need a place to stay.

Salt Lake City Fire Department investigators are still looking into the cause of Sunday's fire at a vacant building at 204 W. 2100 S.

Because power and gas to the building had been shut down prior to the fire, investigators believe the fire was human caused. The fire appears to have been accidental, however investigators are still trying to determine that for sure.

SLCFD crews contained the fire to the vacant building where the fire originated. The fire did not spread to neighboring buildings.

At 11:10 p.m. on Sunday, May 5, 2013, the Salt Lake City Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 204 West 2100 South.

The first-arriving firefighters saw heavy smoke and flames coming from the roof of a vacant building. Firefighters immediately went to work making sure the fire did not spread to other buildings to the south that connected to the building where the fire originated. 

After the building's roof collapsed, firefighters were able to enter the building and extinguish the fire.

Nobody was inside the building when firefighters arrived and no injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. The owner of the building told SLCFD investigators that his security company notified him that a burglar alarm had been activated shortly before the fire.
